Fundation

Café Volio was established on April 1938 in Costa Rica’s Central Market by Mr. Federico Volio, who passed the company down to his son-in-law Mr. Roberto Sáenz.  During the 1950’s the coffee industry in Costa Rica begins to grow at a rapid pace, forcing Mr. Sáenz to move his business elsewhere. Mr. Sáenz buys a more spacious establishment north from the Central Market,  place where Distribuidora Volio S.A. still operates today.

Emergence

By the end of the 1960’s, Mr. Carlos Bombardelli Preciado buys the company from Mr. Sáenz who at the time had implemented other lines of products besides coffee.

Mr. Bombardelli slowly begins focusing his business solely on coffee leaving behind the additional products Mr. Sáenz had integrated.

Café Volio’s earliest distribution attempt was with a bicycle that was used to distribute the coffee to surrounding businesses and restaurants.  As time passed by,  new improvements were added to the company such as a semiautomatic packaging machine and a small delivery truck.

By 1976, the growth of the company surpasses the capacity of the establishment  forcing Mr. Bombardelli to find another place with a greater production capacity.  Seeing an opportunity, he buys the facilities of Café Aroma Tico located in Barrio San José de Curridabat.

With the help of an industrial plant and three delivery trucks  the expansion of Café Volio’s distribution begins.

In the mid 80’s, the development of the plant starts with the acquisition of two Probat toasters known worldwide as the best roasting coffee machines.

By the new millennium, our company introduces a gourmet coffee which has become one of Costa Rica's best. The plant doubles in size and hi-tech grinding and packing machines are acquired.

Café Volio is the undisputed leader in the pure coffee market in Costa Rica grabbing close to 70% of the market and covering about 90% of our national territory.

With more than sixty years of existence Café Volio maintains innovating, with constant growth every year,  providing an excellent product for thousands of satisfied costumers.
